Around two thousand tenants could benefit from solar panels which are to be installed on suitable council homes. The decision to install the panels was made by the council earlier this year. It will mean cheaper energy bills for people who get the panels. The panels are being installed thanks to a government grant.

The panels will be installed over the next eight months. It is predicted that energy bills will rise considerably over the next few years.
77% of residents who replied to a consultation said they supported the idea of installing solar panels. We want as many homes to benefit from this scheme as possible. We will be looking at other energy saving projects for homes which will miss out on this initiative.
The council has announced that Breyer Group Plc will carry out the installation of the panels. Breyer will be writing to tenants who could benefit from the scheme, with more details about what will happen next.
